Vivino Import

If you've been rating wine in another app for years, you've already done the hard part. Hundreds of real verdicts on real bottles, worth far more than any questionnaire, and normally the thing you lose the moment you switch.

Import brings that history with you, so Sommy understands your taste from the first time you open it rather than the fiftieth.

It isn't only Vivino

Vivino is the common case, but Sommy also imports from CellarTracker and VinoCell, and there's a route for exports that don't come from any of those.

CellarTracker in particular tends to be where the serious collections live, and those files carry both what you own and what you thought of it, which is exactly the pair Sommy wants.

How it works

Pick where you're coming from and Sommy tells you how to get the export file out of that app, which is usually the fiddliest part and differs for each one. Upload it, and the matching runs while you wait.

Then, before anything is committed, you review it. You see what matched and what didn't, and you approve it. Nothing lands in your account that you haven't looked at, which matters because an import that silently mangles a few hundred wines is worse than no import at all.

What you get out of it

Your ratings become the foundation of your taste profile immediately. Instead of a rough sketch built from a minute of questions, Sommy starts with the real distribution of what you've enjoyed and what you haven't.

Worth knowing how the weighting works: recent ratings count for more than old ones. So a long history transfers with the right emphasis, and a phase you went through in 2019 informs the picture without dominating it.

Where the file includes bottles you own rather than just ones you've drunk, those populate your Cellar, so you skip the setup there too.

When it helps, and when it doesn't

Anyone arriving with more than a handful of ratings should do this first. It's the single biggest jump in recommendation quality available to a new user, and it takes a few minutes.

If you've rated a dozen wines elsewhere, it's not worth the export. Find Your Taste gets you started in about a minute and your own ratings will overtake that small history quickly anyway.

Do I need to keep my old app?

No. The import is a one-off file, not a live connection, so nothing depends on the other account afterwards.

What happens to wines Sommy can't match?

They're shown to you at the review step rather than dropped quietly. Unmatched bottles are usually small producers or local wines, and you decide what to do with them.

Will importing overwrite what I've already rated in Sommy?

No. Imported history is added to what you have, and you see the result before it's applied.
