Every personalized app has the same awkward first five minutes. It needs to know you before it can help you, so it asks you to do a pile of work up front and gives you nothing back until you've finished.

Find Your Taste is built to end that as fast as possible. A minute of input and you get a real recommendation, not a progress bar and a promise.

Several ways in, none of them long

You can answer a few short questions, move some sliders, or swipe through wines and react to them. All of them are doing the same thing underneath, which is establishing roughly where your palate sits so Sommy has somewhere to start.

You can also describe your taste through food rather than wine. Most people can say with confidence whether they'd rather have a squeeze of lemon or a spoonful of cream, long before they can say whether they prefer high acid to low. Food is the vocabulary people actually have.

If you already own wine, the fastest route is to scan a bottle you like. And if you've been rating wines in another app for years, import that history and skip the introductions entirely.

You get a recommendation, not a certificate

The end of onboarding isn't a "profile complete" screen. It's a wine, chosen for you, with a reason attached.

That first recommendation is deliberately a starting point rather than a verdict. Sommy is working from a minute of information, and it says so. What it gives you is a direction good enough to buy a bottle from, which is all anyone needs on day one.

It keeps going after the first minute

What you do next matters more than the questionnaire. Every wine you rate feeds your taste profile, and within a couple of dozen ratings the picture is genuinely yours rather than a rough sketch.

You can also come back and go deeper whenever you like. The quick path isn't the only path, and doing more of them later refines the model without starting it over.

When it helps, and when it doesn't

This is the front door. It's for the first hour of using Sommy, and for anyone who has never thought hard about what they like but knows a bad recommendation when they see one.

It's the wrong route if you already have a history worth bringing. Importing beats answering questions, because real ratings on real bottles carry far more information than any quiz.

How long does it actually take?

About a minute for a usable first recommendation. There's no long form to finish before the app does anything for you.

What if I don't know anything about wine?

That's the expected case. The questions are about food, preferences, and reactions to wines you're shown. None of them require vocabulary you don't have.

Can I redo it if it got me wrong?

Yes. You can revisit the setup, go through a deeper version, or simply adjust your taste profile directly. Nothing set on day one is permanent.
